Headlight glass

Post by nickbenson »

Hi all
Could anyone tell which type of headlamp glass my 1936 vh should have originally. I have the lucas fluted glass and also the frosted bathroom window diffuser type. But I don't know which one I should fit. Help please. Cheers Nick

On my 37 I had the fluted type and in the 37 catalogue it clearly shows the glass as being fluted. 36 was very similar to 37 so that would be my guess.

Hi Dave
Thanks for your reply I rather thought it was the fluted one and I much prefer it. It is also missing the small clip underneath the shell which retains the rim so I'm I bit wary of it falling out, I'll try to source one. Thanks again Nick

Mick is missing the clip at the bottom of the lamp which holds the rim to the shell.

Maybe the Czechs can help?

Hi Yes Dave you are correct it is the clip underneath that retains the rim to the shell that I seek. Regards Nick

Hi Bob the part is like a curved flat tapered spring metal clip retained inside the underside of the lamp shell by a piece of steel wire and it has a shaped end to locate around the lamp rim and so is supposed to stay in place by its shape and tension. Regards Nick

I am sure the Czech boys can help. The headlamp on my Square is a replica made by them and came complete with the clip you need. The one on my RH500 I made from brass strip in 1990, had it chromed and the rim hasn't come off by accident since. The rim is a good tight fit on the shell though.
