Need a couple of pics please!!

Post by ochosolamente »

Back from London where I had a fantastic time. It was great to meet Steve Carter. We met at the Jumble in Kempton park and the next day in London for lunch. There I bought a few parts for me 48 VG. I need some pics of the following parts installed so I make sure I got these right.

1. I need a pic of the exhaust lifter where it mounts to the rocker cover. Im confused about which way the lever swings when actuated and how the cable is routed. I may still be missing a part.

2. I need a pic of the air cable (choke here in the states) where it enters the top of the carburetor. Mine is completely missing and I believe the top of the carb, or the complete carb, has been changed which would explain why no lever or cable exists. The top of the carb where the air cable SHOULD go has a screw in its place. I removed the screw but the ball end of the cable is too large to fit in this hole.

Hope this all makes sense. Thanks Ocho

Sorry Ocho, its not the pic you wanted :D
The lever on the valve lifter is on a taper and when the cable is pulled the lever swings towards the front of the bike. The converluted spring returns the lever back . The trick is getting the lever fitted in the right position so that theres a little play and not pushing down on the rocker at rest. I'll get a picture organised.

If you have no choke cable and lever fitted the actual choke slide may also be missing inside the Carb. My guess is the bike will run fine without a choke slide but if your choke slide is still in the Carb without the cable fitted your bike will try to run with the choke on all the time, not good.

Is this what your looking for
There should be a small cilinder end to your cable not a bal.

Thanks for the pics. As i thought, I'm missing the bracket that bolts to the cylinder head and hooks the end off the funky spring. Here's what i have!
Ill try to put some pics up of my current configuration

.....when the cable is pulled the lever swings towards the front of the bike......

On my ariel it moves to the rear of the bike.....it's a 'bowden' cable.

Yep, I wonder if Ocho already went for it with hacksaw and chisel to get his one swinging to the front
