Hmm, “flawed”? Gosh, you cut deep, sir.
And how did you know about the Manxes? (It wasn’t in the carpark but it’s true I was holding the torch at the time.) Long ago and far away I was my cousin’s mechanic for his Nortons, but I suppose you already know ‘cos your spies are everywhere. (And always ...

Re: Electronic ignition
I hesitate to criticize the opinion of m’Learned Friend, Professor Falco, but his favouring the magneto and his gentle mockery of the use of “the dynamo, voltage regulator, and battery” all necessary to support an “aftermarket ignition system” must not go unchallenged. For when disguised as ...

Re: Here we go again....
Simon, what precise oil are you using? Please note, I ask this in view of Nev's remark about differences in lubrication between the two cylinders ("the timing side always gets more oil . . ") and not to start another "oil war".

Re: 1950 VB trouble starting
Bevan, thank you for the video and the pm. You've kick started me to finish my VB which got stuck at the "ready to start the engine" stage a couple of years ago. (And Vincent has the VB bug too.)

Re: 1950 VB trouble starting
That was good. And no potholes! And no traffic either. I see you hit 50mph and all was well, but that all the road signs of speed and distance are in metric. Ah, well.
Regarding the horse power you must remember that VB horses are different from OHV horses. The latter are race bred, finicky and ...

Re: VB build
Ah, that so beautiful. Perhaps you should use it as a paperweight rather than get it dirty on a bike.
That said, (and I hesitate to offer advice to m'Learned Friend) you have cleaned out the hole behind the exhaust port that's just below the 4th fin down from the top, haven't you. It easily fills ...

Simon, how was the centrifugal Ariel Purifier plug? Looking at all that muck I'd expect it to be full. And yes, magnets, magnets and yet more magnets! Besides ferrous materials, aluminium is also attracted and captured. Ali is paramagnetic i.e. only magnetic while in a magnetic field. It's very ...

Re: VB headgasket thickness ?
Vincent,
Just checked my VB head gaskets and the copper one bought from Draganfly about 5 years ago is 36 thou (0.91mm) thick, an unused asbestos type is 64 thou (1.63mm) thick and a much used asbestos type is compressed to 50 thou (1.27mm) thick. I think your 1.5 mm material will do!

Re: Thorspark Electronic Ignition advice.
Dennis,
Can you do it by attaching the disc to the end of the camshaft? It's half engine speed, of course, but I've done it that way to make plots of valve lift. Not run the engine like that but I suppose with care its possible.
