VB build

Post by Vincent.vanGinneke »

O.K. new thread!
No, the Model C is not ready, I just like to work on different bikes at the same time. :)
Ah! thats not entirely honest.....I am just easely distracted :D

Long story short:
Few years ago I thought of building a IDST repro, like this one :
W.A.West ISDT 1939 Copyright TMW.jpg
Nice.
I found half a WNG frame + crankcase in the legacy from Carlo Jusche, AKA Mr. Bulgaria for members of a certain age...
Half frame from Carlo.JPG
Turned out that frame and engine were 'matching' which is a rarety with WNG models.
Ah! Oh! well I felt more or less compelled to build a proper WNG out of the remains because of this.
So I went ahead and repaired the frame, that took some time.
collected other genuine WD bits to get it complete.
But Hey! I did not want a WNG, I wanted a ISDT repro :(
Another WNG frame came along, a proper orphan in need of a good home.
Welcome !
WNG frame XG12389 voor VB.JPG
Had to straigthen it out 'a little' so the mould I made for the first WNG came in handy.
frame voor VB richten XG12389 (20).JPG
Then a very cheap 1953 VB engine found it's way to me.
So again I drift away from a ISDT repro :D

Further drifting away from the ISDT theme, I choose the Ariel export green as color.
Painting my '52 tank that I used before on Burney.
All proper 'Health & Safety'

For contrast....me spraying my first Ariel in 1978, chromate! but in a real spraybooth luckely.
those were the days my friend....and still they never end.... :D

but I did not like it so I wiped it again....I'll be back!

Devon rims painting.
first step is dry blasting the centre for better paint grip. (stainless rims)
taping the sides. made a spray frame for it to handle it, one for each rim.
4 spokes upright to be able to use the pinstriping tool that needs to be held at 90 degree.

Beugler pinstriper and 'One Shot' pinstripe gold paint.

made a guide paddle from teflon to keep it stable along the side of the rim.

easy !

on to wheel building, turned out that it's best to have it fitted in the forks.
atm building the forks....

To be continued....

Lovely job, looking forward to seeing it progress (whichever one 'it' is :D ).

What really surprises me is that you also find time to write about the rebuild(s).

Please supply the frame number so I can enter the new creation into the machine register. I am loving the footrests!

Beautiful work Vincent.

Can you tell us how you reattached the broken fin? I have 2 cylinders that banged together in shipping and 3 fins to reattach.
Thank you.
