1956 SQ4, Dynamo C35SD

Post by fpassmore »

Hello Gents,

After a recent trip to California and the Mid-America Auctions I have returned flush with a great number of pieces of my puzzle but the Lucas C35SD dynamo has eluded me. If someone has a unit laying about looking for a good home let me know so we can get it winging it's way to Canada. No matter the condition I am not afraid of a rebuild or refurbish, whatever you have will get me that little bit further.

I have a refurbished one with receipt. It is 6 volt positive earth. Are you still looking for one?

Hey Keith,

If Frank isn't interested in the dynamo, kindly let me know. My armature recently failed and my spare one is also earthed out.

Regards

Fred

Gentlemen, I have found one from Jorgen and paid for it yesterday so if Fred needs that one please go ahead. Good to have people willing to pass on what they do not need for themselves.

Well, I finally did it!!! I have a 300 watt dynamo on my MK11 Square 4. I have had the bike since 1969 and can now ride it without worrying about as to whether the charging system will get me home!

I have a modern Japanese 300 watt alternator fitted inside a stainless steel but similar looking, but not a double of the original 70 watt Lucas dynamo. With a turned on, larger 50 watt headlight squeezed inside the headlamp cowl, it charges at less than 30 mph in top gear. Very impressive. No regulator or rectifier needed, it's all internal. It doesn't come cheap but heck it was the best thing I have done to the bike alongside the Morgo oil pump. :D I will post this in the electrical section also.

Cheers .. Fred
