Wanted: Lucas DU 142 8 inch headlamp

Post by ianstephens »

Hello

I’m looking for an original Lucas 8 inch DU 142 headlamp (flat, fluted glass with an instrument panel) for my 1934 Ariel LH Red hunter.

As my bike is 1934 ideally the shell should be in brass but I would be happy to accept a later model (as long as it is not a modern copy).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,
I have as surplus this early Lucas, 8" brass shelled headlamp painted and ready to use. I think it is a DU142 but stand to be corrected.
I live in BC, Canada

Hello Ray,
If Ian is not interested that would go very nicely on my '36 RH Twin Port or the SB31 Sloper, I believe. I have one but a later repro pressed steel one.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the interest. If Ian is not interested you are next in line.
What project are you working on now?
Cheers.

Many thanks Ray, I’ve sent you a PM.

Does anyone know where I might find the glass, reflector and rim. I already have a suitable panel.

Best wishes

Ian

Ian, I got my rim from single spares and 'replica' fluted glass on Ebay. However, it looks as though you are after original parts so cannot help if that is the case.

Cheers

Hello Frank,
I think a SB31 would use a Lucas H52 headlamp!

You will find that the replicas made by the Czech boys are extremely good if you can't find an original (as I couldn't for the 1936 Square).

As an afterthought, if you need the correct original glass, go to a car autojumble where they are (or used to be) common enough. They are like hens teeth at bike autojumbles.
