Private message stuck in the Outbox

I have a private message stuck in the Outbox. This is my second attempt after deleting the first message that also got stuck in the Outbox.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
I have sent a few messages before.

Doesn't it mean that the recieving party hasn't read the message?

Possibly, but they usually appear in the 'Sent' box at some point.
I'll contact the recipient and ask them to read their messages and see what happens in the Outbox.

PMs don't get stuck, but they do stay in 'outbox' until they get read by the recipient. (So you know if they have actually been looked at.)
They then move into 'sent'.

Thanks, I have contacted the recipient by other means but no reply yet.

Worth remembering that phpBB only moves a PM from Outbox to Sent once the recipient actually opens it, so a message sitting there for a few days usually just means they haven't logged in. Plenty of members only check in now and then, or have the forum notification emails going to an old address or the spam folder, so they may not even know there's a message waiting.

If the person you've contacted by other means still doesn't reply, it might be worth asking them to check their email settings in the forum profile. Until they log in and open it, the message will just sit there, so nothing you did wrong.
