oil pump for 1942 Ariel W/NG

Post by Bruce Gipson »

I am looking to buy an oil pump for the 1942 Ariel W/NG I just imported to the States . Any suggestions ? Russel Motors said they sold all of theirs to the Ariel Club. Thanks.

Bruce - I've moved your post to here as these pumps are common to all 1929-on singles, with the exception of the feed plunger being increased in size in the late 1940s.
The effect of this change can cause a lot of discussion, possibly it puts too much oil into the engine (especially if the piston is the type with 3 compression rings) but on the other hand there are many bikes (like mine) running fine with the later bigger-size feed.
(I deleted the other post in the W/NG-specific section.)

3 thin compression rings with a Relief below the Bottom one with drain Holes as fine in a W/NG. Good compression and 18,000 Miles without the Head off and No oil leaks or smoke. The 49A pump was to reduce Piston noises with the crook alloy pistons extra clearance. More suited to a VH or VG. with a chair. Oil rings cause a lot of friction, equals heat. Nev
