1929 frame ?

Post by charvey »

Hello All, I have a 1929 SV the chassis number starts with a H but it has been stamped into the frame, it also has a 1927 tank which is no problem, I think the bike is a bit of a made with bits that they had.
The chap I bought it off of had had it 20years plus and it needed a bit of work plus engine overhaul before it was on the road.
The thing is the frame does not fit the engine lugs by about 1/2 to3/4 of an inch so the previous owner put two plates one each side to make up the difference at the bottom lugs when I had the engine out I tried to strap and pull it straight but with no joy so before I go any further could the frame be a sloper frame stamped with an H or whatever. I think the chap I bought it off of bought it from Richard Jones Cheshire because there was a leaflet in with the log book.
I have put up some photo's or I should if I can one with the plate and one without.
Any body can help with advise it does handle OK as it is but regards Clive.
All the other lugs and plates line up fine rear of engine and front plates.

It looks like the lug has been replaced with a fabricated part, or at least the end of it where it attaches to the plate, which should be 7/16 thick, 1-3/4" above c/l of lower tube, 1-13/16 inboard of c/l and 4.583 in front of engine c/l. That part should be a one piece forging inserted over the bottom rail tube. Drawing available.
It isn't a Sloper frame.
It is often said that factories would use up any old parts they had lying around, which was probably true for Triumph during the co-op period but generally speaking there is little evidence for it happening on even a small large scale. They just were not that disorganised and apart for one instance in 1948 or 1949 when VH tanks were fitted to many SQ4s they certainly would not fit something like a tank from another year.
