Ariel and oil

Normally, the oil is under the Ariel – here it is on a canvas.
Beautiful, isn't it?

Do we know anything about the bike or the owner? (Was it maybe Claude Yvel's own bike?)
(Is that a footboard running across under the gear lever and timing cover? Interesting mod.)

I don't think it's a footboard but more likely a guard for the timing case to
complement the sump bashplate.

I did wonder if it had pulled a sidecar at some point because of the cross-over
exhaust system.

The bike looks to be well sorted and the painting is almost photographic in its
detail - both very nice.
