1955 Square 4 mk2 wiring diagram

Post by andrewneall »

Hi

My name is Andrew Neall and I live in Overstrand, North Norfolk. I have recently acquired a 1955 Square 4 Mk 2 and am currently checking the bike over, prior to a start up.

In a box of parts that accompanied the bike, I found an unopened plastic bag containing a wiring loom MC1032PB. The box also contained the remains of the original loom. Does anyone know if this is the correct loom for my bike? I found a diagram of a wiring loom on-line, diagram W2329A, it is dated October 1955. Unfortunately the colours of the wires on the diagram do not fully correspond with the actual colours of the loom.

My question - do I have the correct wiring loom and an incorrect diagram or do I have the correct diagram and an incorrect loom?

Any help would be gratefully received.

That loom is for a 1951-58 SQ4 so is correct for your bike. The PB suffix denotes a plastic tape bound one rather than a cloth bound one that Draganfly supply. Theirs come with a diagram for use with the loom, the manufacturer and other suppliers don't bother making one. I have sent you a copy by email.

Hi Simon

Good to hear from you, it would be handy to be able to pick your brain, as I am feeling my way at the moment!
You may well know the bike. A previous owner was an Ariel Owners Club member, by the name of Geoffrey Dimmick, living in Scratby. It has passed through at least 3 further owners before me, the last owner had the bike resprayed black (rather well).
Geoffrey Dimmock fitted a Morgo oil pump and a Draganfly filter. He also fitted the Club Conrods and fitted new main bearings.
As far as I can tell, the bike has had little use over the past decade.

I acquired the bike largely complete, but I am going over the bike renewing or replacing parts as required.
