Ariel VB matching no. ?

Post by ralfpenkert »

Hello,
Probably someone knows if
frame ARR9107 and engine PE413
fit?
Bike is offered first registered 1956 with a VB 600 SV engine, color is black, petrol tank has no flutes.
Imported from Norway to Germany some years ago.
Thanks for any answer - Ralf

Probably not Ralf... I guess that it APR, not ARR? APR is 1957; PE is 1954.
cheers

A 1954 engine fits perfectly into this frame and is the same as the original engine. The bike looks correct for 1957, probably wrong chainguard, horn is modern, front mudguard looks a bit like a BSA one with sharper corners but may be the photo. seat is wrong, shocks are modern.
This bike has not been heard of since about 1992 when it was listed in the VMCC register, owner unknown but probably John Watts of Oxfordshire who is listed as its keeper in 1986. The UK registration was OTP 599, which is still listed on our vehicle registration authority as the same bike, so you could bring it here, fit a number plate and carry on.
Roger Gwynn, Membership Secretary, curator of the Machine Register and the works drawings. Director of Draganfly Motorcycles, Craven Equipment and Supreme Motorcycles mostly retired.

More of a general Ariel topic than a historic one - so moved!
