Leader wing mirrors

Post by Trev Sellars »

2T Spares scheme, upcoming projects for spares.

After receiving a request from a member and Leader owner, I am on the way to reproducing the original plastic mirror housing.
As you can see from the attached pictures, almost there, just some fine detailing to complete the design. The colour is only a sample run to check final dimensions etc. The new housing will not be as flexible as the original, so the new convex mirror may have to be glued in or fixed with 2 sided tape. I will know more soon. Also an indication of price.

I have some original glass but they need resilvering. Again, this will be looked at to reproduce them, but maybe in plastic if I can get the finish to a decent level. More news on that one!

Looking good. There is a firm that I have used for convex mirror glasses, very reasonably priced. https://phoenixwingmirrors.co.uk/

Well the printing was so so, and not that great. Ive given the task to a specialist 3D scanning company, who will reverse engineer the manufacturing process, to get a better result and accuracy. The material will be of a pliable nylon, almost the same as the original housings.
I am hoping to get some sets for sale at the A.G.M. So, see you there

Leader mirror housing Mk 2.jpg
Well, here we are gents, Mk 2 of the leader wing mirrors. They are made upo of the same material as the original and as such are flexible to accomodate the Mirror lens as originally.
I will be taking a sample set to the A.G.M. and will be taking orders for the housings. I have managed to source a fixing bolt, domed washer and nut from Fleabay. The batches will be made in batches of 10 (5 Pairs), and although 3 D printed with a reasonable finish, they will require a little rub down if you intend to paint them.
At the moment White Only! But it may be possible to have them made in other colours.
