My tank is a mildly dented scratched post war tank but still provides a cautionary tale is to be clear about the curves to whoever is painting the tank up..., Using a compass centred on the front badge screw hole gives a good rounded side panel front view. The other top curve centred elsewhere the attached photos show me trying to correct some rather 'Japanese stylee' tank lining - apparently generated by using the dimensioned drawings being refereed to (!)
As Paul says, Bert, Tom et al provided a far range of variations and I personally regret not having first explored the three dimensional geometry simple beauty of tank lining with a bit of masking tape and some marker pens beforehand.....

I did draw some lines with a tape as i am not so good with the artistic side of the restoration and also gave the drawings to the painter.
He will draw the lines (a lot better than me) and then i will have a look for review before painting.
I will try to just make it beautiful to the eye than follow an exact pattern
