Back in the days when you had to remove all the insects from the goggles after a day's riding, on a small country road I saw a small dark cloud ahead of me. I expected midges. It was a swarm of bees. It felt like heavy rain. Most bees died on impact, except for those between the open helmet and my cheeks. Since then I use a full face helmet.

Once riding my Thruxton I hit a wasp in flight, rear ended it. Thing was that I hit it with the side of my neck, and it attached it's rear end to my neck on impact. I immediately got the impression that I had been shot at, as I first registered a hit, and then a sharp, intense burning pain at the spot... panick took me good, and I emergency braked onto the pavement almost went rubber side up in the process - when standing still I fumbled with my gloved hands at the spot on my neck, expecting blood and stuff from my neck all over my gloves, but to my surprise a wasp was dangling from one of thr fingers, looking very dead indeed. I had a very intense 15 minutes in pain and agony on that pavement, before the pain went gradually away. Luckily I had no wasp allergy, as I probably would have been suffocated from a swollen throat and neck. So, always wear a neck scarf when riding.
