Frame number identification

Post by nikola.buntak »

Hi,
Does anyone can help with identifying a frame, under the head stock I found the number ET 12xx. What year is it? And what kind of suspension should it have?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Adrie,
I was looking under the seat, there was done some welding, so the frame number will stay a mistery.

Will post some photos of the bike in a nother post.

ET is indeed Edward Turner. All Square Four parts are prefixed ET. The fact that the next number is 1 tells me this is a pushrod Square Four frame as these have a number sequence starting ET 1xxx, the 1xxx signifying 1000cc. The front down tube should have a casting on the lower end to take two engine bolts. Is the main frame tube above the engine in line with the rear frame rails or is the back end of it rather higher? If a straight line, you are talking 1937-53. If a high back end to the main tube you are talking 1954 onwards, in which case the frame number should be on the steering head.
