30's Front Wheel or hub

Hi,
Would anyone have a front wheel suitable for Webb forks? They are nominally 5" between the legs. Ideally 19" rim, or just the hub so I can build it to a 19" rim, and to push my luck the brake parts would be nice too! I'm not too worried about originality but need something better than I have now as its just not 'man' enough for sidecar use, so preferably a 7" brake (or even 8"!!).

Why not simply buy one of the Ariel girder fork front hubs made by the Club?

An iron brake drum is infinitely better than any steel one. For a single leading shoe set up the Qualcast drum with the fulcrum adjustment used on ARIELS is one of the best around. You can "jiggle" the material type (softer) or remove some area from the trailing shoe lining to make them "bite " a bit more. You will eventually burn a lot of paint off them if you use them hard so use high temp stoved paint on the drum exterior. Nev

How about an Enfield (India) 2LS front hub, these are narrow and I have threaded the spindle on one to fit to a 1930 bike, but still need to alter the brake plate to fit a standard torsion arm. They are a lot of brake for not a lot of money. Jim

When you say 30's, which years do you mean? The earlier ones are all steel. I don't know the year they changed. With a chair, it's nice to have "better" brakes, but as you might gather, I am fairly happy with the later Qualcast drum type brake if it's set up right. Nev

The bike is a 1930 but I'm told that it has 1931 forks fitted. The 5" front brake drum is flimsy to the point you can see it flex when you apply the brake and in use it has 'modest' braking effect so it has to go. A 2LS is always an option but the difficulty in making it look period has put me off, plus the mechanism needs a little more of the already limited space to clear the fork leg.
