Re: w/ng purchase
Look under the seat, right hand side, stamped on the big frame lug behind the back of the petrol tank.

Re: w/ng purchase
I make that frame late 41/early 42; engine is late 43/early 44. It's XG.
Look here under W/NG contract details:

So there you go! Enjoy it. If you need help posting pictures, just ask.

Re: w/ng purchase
Date your bike on the frame or contract # plate if fitted on the hinging part of the rear guard. Engines got swapped during repair. They never matched originally, just went within a range, (with a possible overlap at the extremes).. Matchless write something on the engine very time they do something to it with their war models. common (fit all) universal Terry? seats were across all makes at times. Some Matchless ran Miller electrics . The ARIEL is relatively easy to follow the changes. I only recently found out the front wheel is 36 spoke WM2 . so you can always find out more. (I'm looking for a new "black" rim at the moment. Any clues. They all seem to be stainless or chromed). Nev

I'm sure a company like Devon rims would supply you with an unchromed steel one, they made a couple of stainless jampot shrouds at my request a few of years ago reasonable cost also, postage to Aus may be a little daunting. kind regards
ps will try another way with the pics

Re: w/ng purchase
Richard,
If a W/NG saw service it was overhauled and fitted with an (overhauled or new) replacement engine before being sold off for civilian use. The military authorities ordered large quantities of spare parts for the bikes, ranging in size from engines and frames down to individual items like oil pressure regulators. I would suggest that your bike saw service and was fitted with an engine originally supplied as a spare before being sold off.

Re: w/ng purchase
Paul, I believe my W/NG had it's original engine - Bob is currently doing the checks. As you might know, I brought it back from Italy where it was civilianized.
The numbers are at the bottom of this post:
http://ariel-square-four.blogspot.co.uk ... e.html?m=0
Can you infer whether it saw service from these meagre facts and circumstances?

Re: w/ng purchase
Simon, the kicker is a straight one and I have found them hard to get. I still need one (or two) myself. I have a batch of the horn mounts (two pieces) for that model that are available exact copy to spot welds in the same place. Not mine but can be arranged, prefer larger numbers than just one set. Nev
