I am running a bit behind on this one but you have a much earlier oil tank, the correct one for your bike will sit on one side to allow the battery carrier plenty of room on the other side. It should not be too difficlut to find the correct tank, it is plain and rectangular in shape.

Even a Colt oil tank will fit in place of the earlier small oil tank. It has bulged out sides and the filler is on an angle. Nev

Its been a while since I have reported on here mainly because I have had faultless running from my Ariel.
When I say faultless it has always been a bit Smokey but never caused me any problems so I chose to ignore it.
Unfortunately while on a run to Goathland this weekend she let me down ,the symptoms were it would tick over fine but when you get a few revs on, it would misfire and blow back through the carb. I have stripped the head and found a broken inlet valve guide which was obviously the cause of the problem.
The question I have is this a common fault as its something I have never come across before also while I am inside the motor I am going to give it a re-bore but it is on +40 already what are the chances of getting a +60 500cc piston or would a liner job be favourite.

A Vincent piston will do next, you'll have to ream the small end out for the bigger pin and maybe lighten the piston to Ariel weight.
