Re: New to Ariels
Its been a while since I have reported on here mainly because I have had faultless running from my Ariel.
When I say faultless it has always been a bit Smokey but never caused me any problems so I chose to ignore it.
Unfortunately while on a run to Goathland this weekend she let me down ,the symptoms were it would tick over fine but when you get a few revs on, it would misfire and blow back through the carb. I have stripped the head and found a broken inlet valve guide which was obviously the cause of the problem.
The question I have is this a common fault as its something I have never come across before also while I am inside the motor I am going to give it a re-bore but it is on +40 already what are the chances of getting a +60 500cc piston or would a liner job be favourite.

A Vincent piston will do next, you'll have to ream the small end out for the bigger pin and maybe lighten the piston to Ariel weight.a.middleton wrote:what are the chances of getting a +60 500cc piston
