Re: New to Ariels
Nev
I like the idea of a new length of tube and reft the ends.
Must admit i am little disapointed after paying £130 exchange and they dont do the job.
There was no mention of pushrod altering when i phoned the order through as
I could have had the job done localy (built up with stelite) but thought i would use the experts.
I will stop moaning now and look on the bright side the engine is back in, Vincents oiltank sprayed and fitted
should'nt be too long before the MOT and then sort the Logbook.
My brother as just bought a 1952 Rigid Telle 350 that had been on fire so there is now a race to get mine on the road first.
Also we now have a deadline as we have both entered an hillclimb in June.
We intend to ride them there do the hillclimb and ride home so lets hope they are reliable.

Re: New to Ariels
Hello Andy, following our Ebay conversation .....! I 'll post some kickstarter pics here as for one reason I dont seems to get to grips with the pm function. So the rest of you......bear with us!
The chrome one is from my '51 RH (or VH) it has a upswept pipe, if this set up is original for a '51 type is very debatable, but the RH came that way to me in 1977.
The 'rusty' one came with a BA box from 1949, as you see this one is cranked (whats in a name).
I bead blasted the splines this morning to get a better view, they are not really gone but they have seen better days.
with aid of a triangel file it should get better.
Lenght is 6"

Re: New to Ariels
Vincxent my exhaust runs under the gearbox and so i dont need a cranked kickstart
I have just sold the folding kickstart which had too much crank.
Do you want to sell the chrome one or do a deal with fishtail.
If we can do a deal i will stop the ebay auction straight away.
I have managed to borrow a kickstart and hopping with bit of luck to get the bike started this weekend.

I thought the cranked one was for a bike with the pipe underneath, like you have, but I am not sure.
But if you want the chromed one that's o.k. I'll keep the 'rusty one for my VH (wich is in bits since yonks years) only thing with the chromed one is that I broke it once and rewelded it again.
about 3 cm under the top is no chrome but just polished metal.

Just remember,.......you are not alone !
4 years ago I ordered a set of 'TT' pipes from Unity Equipe, what a load of crap they sent over!
Had to cut each of the downpipes in 3 places to get right.
Unity's responce ? "you bike is not original Sir, our pipes are made by the same person who used to make them back then"
Yeah right, that bloke was probably well in his eighties by then, having lost his eyesight.
More then one supplier on Ebay selling Brooklands cans, all in the range of 122,- to 135,- GBP.
