Yet another potentially obvious question!!
My KH rebuild is progressing well. I am looking to connect the oil pipes to the crankcase ready for the initial fire up. Thing is, as I have no experience of this model I do not know which connection goes where. Can anyone confirm which connection on the crankcase is for the oil feed and which for the return? I don't want to get it wrong with the potentially disasterous consequences.
Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,
Here is a link to the KH (and KG) 1951 Owner's guide on our website. You'll need to be a member to access it.

On page 36 and 37 you will find an exploded diagram of the KH engine which shows the engine oil supply and return connections.
It can be seen that the oil connection closest to the centre of the engine is for the supply pipe and the union nearest the offside (timing side) of the engine is the return union. I am not sure what year your KH is but page 14 of the 1953-54 Ariel Owner's Guide further confirms the oil pipe closest to the centre of the machine is the oil supply connection. I don't know much about the KH but I guess the engine end arrangement has always been the same. Not sure what happens at the oil tank end but it can't be hard to work out the supply and return unions as the return should always return the oil back above the oil level in the oil tank. If you are unsure here then just blow some air through the oil tank's connections to see where it appears from or pass some paraffin through them.
All the best,
Keith Mettam.
