Baffles
Baffles
Hello again. i was thinking about the baffles again and wondering if it would be worth getting a set from Dragonfly, they look more like the originals to me. the ones in my silencers are just the very sparse ones that must have come with the silencers some time in the past. would the dragonfly ones give me any more speed or low down power. What is the general consensus of opinion from you long time Arrow / Leader owners. regards Fred.

Re: Baffles
Hello Fred,
In modern two strokes the silencer and exhaust pipe is designed to work with the exhaust pulses but on the Ariel two strokes I don't think it makes much difference as long as the holes are not blocked with carbon. Having said that I did think my Leader gives a little more low down power with the 1'' tube at the end of the silencer ( the one which fits into the end cone ) a bit shorter. It makes a little more noise but not too much. I've used the Armours basic baffles on my MK 2 but added a modified end tube and short 1'' tube to keep the noise down a bit . It is a bit louder but not too much.

Smoke and mirrors.... At least you can clean it out... It's likely it would respond to a modern style tuned system but having iron cylinders It is a bit limited as to how much power you can get out of it without using large (r) piston clearances. Nev

Re: Baffles
Exhaust systems on two strokes are something of a black art. Most of the power available from modern 2S engines are due to the tuned Exhaust systems and power valves fitted, (and the schnerle porting) I've fiddled with Scotts in the past. Loop scavenged, filled crankcase design. They ran a Burgess muffler with controlled back pressure. If you aren't careful you end up with a noisier, peakier, unpleasant bike, that might go slightly better in speed but isn't as nice to ride around town . Nev
