Hi all, I trying to source the original model carb for a 1936 vh, could anyone advised me of the correct model number for my bike, I believe it should have I 89 but Im not sure of the precise number or what it should look like exactly. Any advise would be very welcome especially any pictures.

My 35 VH has ,I believe the original 89. I'll check the model number in the ,morning and let you know.

My Amal carburetor listing states VH 1933-40, carb no 89/014, 1 1/8" bore, 200 main jet, 106 needle jet, 14 deg float chamber.

My copy of Wallers also lists 89/104 but I checked on my engine 36 model VH and it is stamped 89B/1AK. I have every reason to think it is the original body as when I found it ,it had not been used since the 40s and although a few bits were missing ,it had no foreign or pattern parts fitted.

Amal lists this model for AJS 18S 500cc, 1945 to 49, originally this would have the 1AK float chamber with 3 deg angle (correct) but if someone has changed the main jet to 200 and 106 needle jet then it would match requirements.

Gents thank you again for your endevours, I have cleaned and serviced the 289 carb that is presently on the bike and replaced the jet and needle with new, she was running very rich sooting up the spark plug and coughed to a stop within a minute or two. I then had to whip out the plug clean it before she'd start again, there was a fair amount of sludgy dirt present in the chamber below the jet and also small flakes of brass in the sludge which I can only think must be from the slide. The engine is starting and running better now although I think still a tad rich with a sooty plug but its difficult to really know because I can't take it out for a ride as its not legal yet and I live right off a main road so no quick runs up and down the lane.
I would like still to fit a 89/104 model carb in time. Now thanks to you I know what should be on it. If I can find one in decent condition for a fair price to have the right model carburetor, but I may have to use this 289 for a while yet. Cheers Nick
