They hold sprint meetings on the Isle of Man every year. They are always held on public roads - the promonade at Ramsey. It's called The Ramsey Sprint. How do they think up these names?

We used to hillclimb on the start of the mountain through the Ramsey Hairpin as well but the IOM is not the mainland.

Your original post just said UK. NI is also in the UK and they have many motorsport events on public roads.

I rode through Hereford last week on my '30 outfit and took the opportunity of riding along the King's Acre road to Whitecross.
What a great road to race along! I've been along it in a car many times but usually mind in neutral. It's pretty straight, flat and tree lined both sides.
I understand from some of the old boys in Hay that it was the first road in the area to have a really decent surface.

Great fun to ride along it and gave me a huge dose of nostalgia and a big grin. Not so much fun coming back out of Hereford in rush hour though!
What I'd give for a ride down it on a Zenith-JAP...

Kop hillclimb was a good day out too although very busy. I hadnt realised it had become such a big event.

Julian Hunt, in his book "Motorsport Explorer" thinks that the event at Whitecross Road was held on 10 April 1925 and organised by ACU Western Centre. He also mentions another speed trial held on 31 May 1924 at Rotherwas on the B4399 on what was at the time a mothballed government shell-filling factory and what is now an industrial estate.
