Big-end nuts and con rods 1000 4G 1938

Post by eric.delegrange »

Hi,
For Régis a friend, I rebuild a 1000 4G 1938 ( DC196 ), what is the torque for the Big-end nuts ?
Can I find Big end shells for 1937-1948 Rods ?
Thanks in advance
Eric

Hello Eric,
The factory setting is 22 foot pounds (the document is in the Knowledgebase).
The earlier motors have white metal (Babbit) big ends - cast direct to the rods, then scraped. There are no shells.
Later rods will fit and if you have these, I'd try either our club spares (although I can't see a parts list on the website) or Draganfly.

Hi Roy,
Thank you very for this answer from Australia
I don't find the answer on Knowledgebase only 1958 Information ( Author : Roger Gwynn ),
260 in.lbf = 29.38 N.m = 21.67 ft.lbf
My engine is about 1938 with the first con-rod, so i was perplex about torque
4G 1938 with the first con-rod
4G 1938 with the first con-rod
Regards
Eric

I don't suppose someone could mail me the article? I'm struggling to get access to the knowledgebase for some reason...
cheers

Folks, has anyone had any problems with pattern big end nuts?

I've just stripped one. All the others torqued up to 22 lbsft with no problem.

I'm going back to the supplier, we'll see what happens.
cheers
