Annual rally (?) pictures from long ago

Post by Vincent.vanGinneke »

At the Dutch rally the old photo books once made and owned by Carlo Jusche were on display.
They were auctioned at the Tombola evening and are now in the safe hands of our Editor.
But through my 'contacts' within the Dutch club I now have them all digital :)
Hundreds of pictures but no titles....
As a starter....I found 3 pictures showing a Brough Superior 4 cylinder outfit.
Possibly the picture was taken at a annual rally somewhere in the seventies, perhaps early eighties?
Anyone recall the people, date / place ?

Seen some -then- youngsters club members who are now old man :D

Also a few color pictures.
Again I dont know the date but I do know it's my dad on the left.
First time I've seen this picture showing my dad at a rally. 8-)
In the centre Mr. Roemer - the green SQ4 is his- and possibly the mustached young man is one of the Montanus brothers

The Brough sidecar outfit, with Austin 7 engine and twin rear wheel was probably owned by Martin Emery, I first saw it when I camped at Peel campsite on the Isle of Man for the TT in the late 70s, when Martin was also there. I spoke with Martin at a later AOMCC annual rally, and he said Verells classic bike dealer persuaded him to sell it to the firm. I have no idea where it went to the.

I also remember the Brough from the Peel campsite, although at the time I didn't know any other Ariel owners I have since met many who used to camp there. I think most of the photos are of annual rallies held at Caddington, near Luton, from 1968 to 1979 except in 1973 when it was near Hinckley. I don't recognise anyone except Anya Spackman in the red tee shirt and the hat with flowers, bit of a character. My first Caddington was in 1977 and I do remember a series of tug of war competitions being won by a team composed of all the children on site. Times have changed there are now few spouses and children and no tug of wars but just as many beards! I think one of the ginger bearded guys must be Willem Molnar.

I spot Dick Henry and Colin Craig. I should probably recognise others but my memory is fading.

1972 was my last rally, I moved from my parents house in a Somerset village to a top floor flat in Edinburgh and sold my bikes!

Bob.
My avatar shows the late Len Rich in 1970 with the bike I now have - a 1958 Ariel VH

Thanks Pete, Roger and Bob.
Anya's T shirt reads : I am sick of the Queens Silver Jubilee, so thats 1977.

I have seen a -or this- twin rear wheel BS at a AOMCC rally, could be 1985.
Didnt take any pictures....

atm a Dutch enthousiast is building a replica BS4 from scratch, quite some feat.
