Re: (W)NG for sale in the Netherlands
Apart from the Indian forks, we allready discussed, the frame number does have a AP prefix which means this is not a W/NG at all, but a NG mocked up as a war bike.

Do WE have a rough idea of the Known W/NGs about? I've had 3 and sold one. A '44 model. Tin chainguard and No ammeter or steering damper and "Universal" Seat. "Found" a brand new set of complete forks for that one. It's the best example I know of. Originally from India. Nev

Re: (W)NG for sale in the Netherlands
I guess it’s Roger who has the right insight on this matter because he holds the factory records. Stamping on this frame says it’s a 1945 NG with W/NG frame specs (AP prefix) However It makes me wonder why this NG does have a field stand which I never came across on a AP frame…

It's a pity that John Searle attaches his name and that of Catawiki to such a clearly cobbeld up motorcycle.
'Expert' and 'Selected by him' paints a trustworthy picture of something that is basically a sloppy, thrown together bitsa.
Ofcourse any buyer should make sure what he/she buys is worth it.
This sale/auction is not honest about the Ariel .
Both of them - Dutch Lion and Catawiki - probably dont care.
Highest bidder now looks to be coming from Poland (?)

Re: (W)NG for sale in the Netherlands
I can certainly tell you how many were made and how many are on the register but as about 300 previously unlisted bikes are added to the register each year, the numbers are growing.
39,045 +/- 5% were made, that is W/NG and W/VA. It does include those supplied to government departments early in the war and to the French government and resistance that are assumed to be W/NG. It was not until a good way into production, certainly after they were W/NG rather than NG were they listed as W/NG instead of NG.
There are 424 bikes with W/NG frames listed in the register 335 have the correct engine prefix, not necessarily correct number.
This gives a survival rate of 1% and puts them into 2nd from last place in just in front of 1929-30 Colts (0.7%) out of 24 groups of Ariels. Highest number of survivals is for N singles 1933-58 with 1920.
