GB gearbox oil seal

Post by bill.bowers »

Is it possible to remove the mainsheet oil seal for replacement without dismantling the gearbox? Help please!

Apart from the tedium of dismantling all the primary drive both the bearing
and the oil seal go in from the drive side and not the inside of the gearbox.

Hi

Yes it can, remove the sprocket, retaining circlip, spacer and the seal holder will come out with the seal, replace the seal and re-fit, replacing the spacer, which is also the inner sealing surface for the seal, if it shows signs of wear.

They can be very tight in the case and awkward to pull out

In practice this means you quite often will damage the holder and require a new one…
