BA/CP Gearbox Pawl Spindle

Post by Pete.Silson »

Does anyone know what keeps the pawl pin (3538-33) into the selector spring box (3520-33) in a BA/CP gearbox? Mine is loose and falls out (which results the loss of gear changes). Is it just an interference fit or am I missing some other vital part?

Are you missing the cover plate 3521-33?

I've got the cover plate but that fits on the outside of the spring box, the pawl pin drops inwards through the pawl. It looks like it should have some means of fixing it in the spring box. It may just be an interference fit that has worn, in which case, I will have to make a slightly oversize pin however it doesn't seem a very reliable means of locating the pin.

on this page from Drags it shows the spring box complete with pin.
I guess it's fixed in it, solution would indeed be making a stepped larger pin.

It's meant to be an interference fit. Loctite 263 fixed mine, approx 4500 miles ago. It's made for oily environments.
