if this is AM 1795 it is a very late 1953 frame that could well have some a 1954 head lug. Checking the drawings the web behind the steering head was not there in 1952 but was for the PRF frames

Yes Roger as you say, a late 1953 frame which makes it almost certain these small changes to the last rigid frames where linked with the transition towards the 1954 PRF frame. Why cast old style headstocks, when the new ones where allready on the shelf?

Here is a picture of a 1950 AB frame that has the webbing and side car lug in one casting with the headstock. The 1947 frame does not have the webbing or front sidecar lug. Hope this helps

Never seen one like that before! :o :?
I thought the ribbed headstock was only ever used where the cross-tube was (bronze) welded directly to the top tube (ie no lug at that join).
My Oct 1951 OA frame has a sidecar mounting and no rib!

It seems this type of headstock with webbing is used quite earlier then assumed. Bit not to all models?

One last question on this subject folks - the side stand lug under the clutch dome, added I think in 1948.

Did that stay lug until the PRF frame appeared in 1954?
cheers

The side stand lug is present on my KHA frame which dates from the first few days of July 1952 (not 1953).

Thanks Paul. I'm inclined to think it was there until the end of the single loop frame...

No, the 1953 models had the later s/stand as evidenced by the -53 version of the side stand.
