1937 VB Speedo or Speedo Dial

Post by msmith »

Morning All, trying to locate a new or second hand speedo for my 1937 600VB, if not available I will service mine and then try to replace the dial, any ideas?

You should probably be in Ariel Talk; but I'm sure that an "Admin" will re-locate you soon. The last time I saw a PA speedo for sale, it was £800.
Is there something wrong with the one you have? The dial looks OK in the picture. They are not difficult to service. The main problem is that they are full of loose ball bearings, which tend to disappear on disassembly. Cheers, Chris.

Those speedos are like the proverbial rocking horse poo. Very expensive when you can find one!

Personally I would find a professional to service the mechanism but leave the needle and the dial intact as it shows the patina of the machine and matches the colouring of the ammeter and clock.
cheers

Surely the VB would sport an 80mph PA?
That is a very nice prewar PA (perhaps later needle?) which should get you many eyeteeth even in a part exchange with a VH owner wanting to upgrade?
They are easy enough to clean and re-grease - take it apart in a box to catch the bearings!

Hi Nev, have you images of the new 80MPH speedo, do you agree that this was used on the 1937 VB model? Mike

This is something you can't always be certain about because Ariel would give you a 100 or 120 mph speedo if you wanted it. The dispatch books usually indicate which speedo a bike was shipped with.
