Toolkit for Wallace
Toolkit for Wallace
Hi Folks
I am sure this question has been asked before, but I must ask… what tools (spanner sizes, sockets, special tools) should I start to assemble for my 1956 NH Ariel called Wallace (Gromit is my Red 1960 BSA C15)

Re: Toolkit for Wallace
Ooh I do love a toolkit question. Here's the page I created to describe my 58 Huntmaster toolkit:

Have a look in the library for the parts book for your NH, and you will find a similar list of tools.
Looks fab - did you take delivery yet?

Wallace arrives tomorrow at 8:00 am
my next task is to join the Ariel club, then learn how to adjust the choke/retard.advance/throttle/valve lifter combination when starting Wallace. I managed to get it started after 5 jabs today, but it was dry and warm

Re: Toolkit for Wallace
For a single, I'd say the only special tool you need is the magneto chain sprocket puller (with the cap that goes over the oil-pump drive spigot when using it on the cam sprocket).
And for me, never touch the throttle when starting (unless you've flooded it).

Join the club, well I would say that, and delve into the on-line library and read the Owner's Guide. It is full of basic information and you will learn stuff and you can skip the boring bits.

Re: Toolkit for Wallace
As a follow up to Simon's advice above, I have measured the cap used when removing the cam sprocket, so that one can be turned up if missing.
Dimensions are as follows:
Height 0.525"
Diameter (OD) 0.625"
Diameter (ID) 0.380"
Depth of ID hole 0.375"
The dimensions are as measured by a vernier caliper, so a lttle leeway is possible.
Material is steel, probably mild steel

Re: Toolkit for Wallace
That's useful thanks. I've got a couple of those bought second hand with the cap missing!pete.collings wrote: Sat Apr 05, 2025 11:46 am As a follow up to Simon's advice above, I have measured the cap used when removing the cam sprocket, so that one can be turned up if missing.
