Absulutely agree salt will always find its way everywhere and we use a lot of it on the roads in Canada! When I lived in eastern Canada (Quebec) a car would not last more than about 8 years. The number of used cars I had, as a young man, with no floor boards was silly.

As an update to the rusting of my tools, I had coated them with boiled linseed oil in August last year, and have checked them just recently, after a damp winter in the garage.
I am very pleased to say that they are in perfect condition so job done. In the end I ditched the silica gel sachet idea!
A wipe over with boiled linseed oil has done the job and I commend the idea to the house.
