Great. thanks for the information.
If the new boss is the splined bit off the BSA footrest hanger, they're on long back order with a depressing note against them!

Martin, your splines look good, take care of them. That long stud is often difficult to get out as it's a pretty snug fit to start with (although if it's binding that can help with tightening - and loosening! - the footrest nuts). Drawing it out using one of the nuts and a variety of spacers/bigger nuts/sockets/washers (as Mick suggests) is my favoured method.

If the swing-arm bushes aren't noticeably soft/loose consider leaving them alone and not taking the spindle out. It makes painting more difficult but you avoid a lot of other pain! (When I built my s/arm bike back in 1980-something the spindle wouldn't come out, 40-odd years and maybe 40,000 miles later it's still OK....)(Although every time I say that I hope it's not a case of 'famous last words'!)

Hi Simon,

Now that I know how to get the long stud out of the frame, I'm optimistic I can do it with the method described and a little heat from the hot air gun. I will report back.

With regard to the swingarm stud and the bushes in fact, nothing is loose or makes a bad impression on me. The plan was to remove the swingarm so that I could paint the frame better.
But after what you say about your bushes, maybe I should leave everything assembled and see if I can paint it that way.

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin

If you remove it now you can inspect the bushes etc. paint the frame / PRF easily, re-assemble with a restored or new pin with plenty of lubrication and be confident you can remove it again in the future - or you can paint in situ and keep your fingers crossed

Today I followed the Micks method to pull out the footrest stud and it works well.
I had not the time today to try the same with the swingarm stud. The weather was too good and I took my BMW for the first ride this year. :-)
