Ariel VG 1940 on Catawiki

Post by Vincent.vanGinneke »

- no connection -

Note;
Earlier prim.chaincase, upper front engine plate cover missing, Horn; brrrrrr. Tank clock & oil gauge doubtfull, postwar (folded) handlebar levers, no combination manette, 7" or 6"headlamp instead of 8". postwar steering damper(?), kickstarter the correct type? Whats a 'DH' speedometer ? Front brake rod replaced by wire, looks a pretty shoddy job like this. Oil tank cap unknown origin. Rear mudguard ends a bit short, it misses the 'flare' at the end. Postwar Amal body. AVC ?
I see a switch under the saddle and another one on the dash, could be that the mag innards have been replaced by a electronic gizmo thingy, not sure though.
It looks like it's all 'more or less' there but....all bits need attention :(
Estimated at 11.000,- > 13.000,- euro ? :shock: But you can 'buy it now' for 8250,- I think that is wanting too much for a VG that needs a thorough recommissioning. It's awaiting a rose colored glassed buyer :lol:

It is a matching number 1940 VG, still does not warrant that price or estimate from 'an expert', perhaps his expertise is in cooking

I agree 8250,- euro (buy it now) is a lot of money. But on the other hand this is a machine which has matching numbers, and maybe also a matching gearbox? So thats very nice and a very good start. Yes there will be enough work to do, but it’s got a PA speedo, and for the rest all the main components are there. The early primairy cases are worth a ‘small fortune’, so are easy to sell. And it runs. So it looks everything is pressent in the engine compartment.
To be honest, I’ve seen lot of people overhere who are throwing buckets full of money into Ariel projects (me included..) which will not ever become a matching machine. So in the end, what is the real wisdom…?
