Has anyone changed the outer and middle cover gaskets on a square 4 GB 7 transmission in the frame

Yes. It's quite possible once footrests and exhausts are out of the way.
The one fight I've had is with the split pins securing the dowels into the cam.
They can be a pain to both get out and replace especially if you are working
on the floor. Gravity and lack of access are not your friends here.
Also, the thread on the end of the mainshaft is both small and brittle - don't go
mad when tightening the nut back up on re-assembly. Later boxes had a tab
washer and a modified fixed pawl to help retain the nut.
