How different is a Huntmaster frame compared to a single frame ?

I assume you mean swing-arm.
No differences at all.
(I've got one that swaps between a VH and an FH depending on which engine I've broken....)

Same outer, but the inner is different for each of the twins ('cos they need to make more room for the crankcases).
However it is possible to use a twin inner with a single-cylinder engine if you make a suitably thick spacer plate to go between the inner and the crankcase!

Hmmm... So I could build a rip-snorting single and have the best of both worlds without restoring another bike!

/Are the petrol tanks on the swing arm Ariel bikes different between the single and the twin motors on the frames?

Depends which single and twin! There are 2 tanks used, the difference being the recess underneath to clear the top of the engine. 1954 NH,VH are the same and KH and FH use one a different one. They all use the same tank for 1955. Again for 1956 all are the same, 1957-58 the tanks are different for NH/VB/KH and for the VH/FH. So 5 tanks in total.
