Re: VH 500
Hi Dave, Absolutely nothing happening to Albert at the moment but my old chopped Z1000 should be going this week along with a set of huge chrome wire wheels from the hot rod, got a couple of Jag' engines to eBay as well, should all give me some room to work at long last... Not putting you off, you ...

Re: VH 500
Can't believe that it's been over a year since I last posted on here... Well, I have absolutely no progress to mention whatsoever - in fact things have gone backwards! I did manage to take Albert for a very short test ride, but neither the clutch nor gearbox wanted to operate correctly and in the ...

Roger James - presumably the CA is the Bedford camper mentioned in your post? Dad owned one when I was a mere lad and we covered most of Britain in it over the course of many years and many annual holidays.

Re: VH 500
Thanks for the replies - I was pretty sure that no gasket was used but you can't believe all that you read on the 'net! Especially when I've already been informed that the head isn't original. Lapping sounds like a long job... I'm going into the garage now, I may be some time...

Re: VH 500
Sorry I've not updated this in a while but what with the cottage renovation and several months of being "out of comission" due to a bad back things haven't progressed as well as I'd have liked.

Re: My 1950 VH
Can't help with your running query but "what a lovely looking machine". It's been a few years since I last fully rebuilt a bike but the feeling (pride etc.) once done is wonderful, and that, certainly, looks a bike to be proud of...

Re: VH 500
I don't know the legalities for new registrations but most of my older bikes have had stands that stay down and have not had any interlock fitted. This includes my 2002 Hinckley Bonnie. Any bikes I've owned that have had flip up stands I've usually modded so that they stay down until I need them to ...

Re: VH 500
That's a very generous offer Dave, many thanks. I'll p.m. you as soon as I know what I'm at.
One of the things that has annoyed me ever since I got Albert was how precariously he sat on the sidestand. It wouldn't stay down without the weight of the bike on it and the smallest nudge was enough to ...

Re: VH 500
Difficult to believe I last posted on this thread so long ago... the big problem has been me trying to finish my old Austin hot rod - what should have been a simple engine change, with a bit of fettling here and a small improvement there, has become the best part of a year's work (I'm sure many of ...

Have you tried taxing it on line? When I tried to tax my 1936 hot rod various details on the paperwork were incorrect and the Post Office was not authorised to change them. Despite the website coming up with an on screen warning, which I just ignored, I was able to go ahead and the correct V5 and ...
