Taxation Class on V5

Post by marcus whatling »

For bikes that have not been on the road for a long time the Taxation class has Not Licensed in the V5 .
The last bike i got back on the road I had to take the logbook to the local Tax Office .
You know the ones that are now all closed .
Does the Logbook now have to be sent to Swansea ? :?

Have you tried taxing it on line? When I tried to tax my 1936 hot rod various details on the paperwork were incorrect and the Post Office was not authorised to change them. Despite the website coming up with an on screen warning, which I just ignored, I was able to go ahead and the correct V5 and tax disc turned up within a week or two with no further correspondence.

I had the same problem recently and it came down to the wrong classification showing on the V5 - which should have been 'Historic Vehicle'. The Post Office computer gave a warning to say that it could not be taxed but they could not give any more details, and when I tried the on-line option, the website advised me to contact DVLA.

The first muppet I spoke to at DVLA could not find anything wrong, but I eventually found out it was down to the vehicle classification.

Within a week of sending the V5 back to DVLA with a covering letter, they provided me with an updated document.
