Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
More progress. Much thanks to Chris for sending back for another look. Frame in really rather good condition. Comparing the forks on it to the set I have they were almost identical aside from two small tubular lugs on top and these ones are about 1" longer. Good news is bits missing off one set of ...

Re: 1928 Ariel 'shop manual'
Came across this today so I am a bit late. The answer is yes! Am constantly adding to a growing collection of pictures and odds and ends. Would love some sort of more coherent compiled shop manual. For example I am still chasing various frame dimensions and ideas for a jig to assemble my frame back ...

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
Yes I am going to keep prompting them! The gearbox turned up. Went into the frame in the right place. Took the SV motor out of its crate and also plonked it in the 'pieces' of the frame. Pictures shortly. The speedo half of the box is smashed out and that lug that holds the 'steady' that bolts into ...

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
Oh also I looked. I have an extra 28 crank. 28 cases. 28 rod. 28 cylinder. What I thought was another Ariel piston may actually be BSA. Is in a box with some other BSA bits.

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
Hahah! I feel the same way! I'd like to get this bike back to running order but if all I do before I die is to pull together enough pieces for somebody else to take it over I would consider it work worth doing. Some years ago bunch of parts appeared at a lock up in Melbourne I came across. The grand ...

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
I think what I will do is invite him to come over to the group. I sent him the parts list so he can figure out what he has got. Lots of it looked to me both earlier and older than 1928. For the sake of privacy I will let him come here and share his pictures etc.
Also I might actually have a spare ...

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
Fellow I got the gear box off apparently has lots more Ariel bits to dispose of. Veritable hoard. Has three front chain/clutch covers. Would I be right that two are later and one is earlier than 28? Any chance one of these could be modified to fit a 28 ?

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
Pulled out paper work from Draganfly again. Leckie seat and twist grip. Nothing about a speedo. Must have just got myself confused as usual.

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
What I was going to do was take it down to the cases and then send em to an outfit for a hydro blasting that says they can do aluminium without boogering it up. After a bit of a disaster last month ( thankfully not something rare and not an Ariel part ! ) where I managed to dissolve an aluminum ...

Re: 1928 Ariel some wood and some tape ..
I think I see the cracked lug to. Well at least one cracked lug. Item is still in the post so will be interesting to see what else is broken. I have been steadily improving my tig welding skills. What is the particular problem with the Burman alloy? Also is the number after the QDL the date on it ...
