Hi Damien: Any chance this veritable hoard might include a 1928 Model B oil pump, piston, and/or carburetor?

I think what I will do is invite him to come over to the group. I sent him the parts list so he can figure out what he has got. Lots of it looked to me both earlier and older than 1928. For the sake of privacy I will let him come here and share his pictures etc.

Also I might actually have a spare piston. In the process of collecting up Ariel parts I have garnered quite a collection of motor bits. Lots of it is later stuff. But some of it is 28 motor bits. I will check my own steadily growing hoard tomorrow. When you say oil pump do you mean the external plunger gizmo? I have not even got to that bit yet! I thought the whole thing was the SV doesn't have an oil pump internally? I have a complete 28 SV motor sitting in a box that I have barely dug into yet. I think that may begin this month as soon as I push another motor off the bench out of the way.

I have a couple of cylinders, but I'm pretty sure both need sleeving, so any decent piston would probably do as I can get the sleeve bored to size. The oil pump is the plunger type that bolts into the crankcase from the outside. It helps with bottom end oiling, but the system is still considered 'total loss' with the drip feed from the oil tank as part of the petrol tank. I have most of the pump, but I am missing the screw on end cap that holds the piston in place. I'm not in any big hurry as I still need a fair number of parts to get to the point where I can call my Model B 'a project' with any certainty of completion before I die. Any help, parts, leads, whatever will be greatly appreciated so I don't end up leaving my grieving widow with a pile of grubby Black Ariel bits and pieces when I expire.

Hahah! I feel the same way! I'd like to get this bike back to running order but if all I do before I die is to pull together enough pieces for somebody else to take it over I would consider it work worth doing. Some years ago bunch of parts appeared at a lock up in Melbourne I came across. The grand kids did not have much of an interest aside from to clear it all out. Of course one does not ask to much but it was all very sad. Row of bikes lined up on tables in various states of restoration. Not disorganised. Everything labelled. Shelves and shelves of classic bike parts all clearly in a system. Somebody would come to take the more complete projects of course. But the only thing the kids seemed to know about any of it was what was written on the paper tags or in chalk on the various parts. On a brighter note think I found a magneto that is the right one in the hoard. Apparently the fellow with these bits is cutting down trees and being snowed on so might be a little longer before he catalogues it all. But also I saw wheels. Many many wheels. Rear stands. Timing gears. Basically ...

Oh also I looked. I have an extra 28 crank. 28 cases. 28 rod. 28 cylinder. What I thought was another Ariel piston may actually be BSA. Is in a box with some other BSA bits.

Yes I am going to keep prompting them! The gearbox turned up. Went into the frame in the right place. Took the SV motor out of its crate and also plonked it in the 'pieces' of the frame. Pictures shortly. The speedo half of the box is smashed out and that lug that holds the 'steady' that bolts into the rear of the frame is indeed broken off. I am back to looking for the appropriate tie studs now to put this lot together. Honestly if I cannot locate the appropriate studs for this I am just going to go on the lathe and make ones. Somewhere back in this now quite long thread somebody pointed me to taps and dies to. I really want to look into the motor. Think I said already still has compression to. Proper bike lift is turning up. Getting some sort of momentum going for all this. Also got big new workshop built. Progress being made.

More progress. Much thanks to Chris for sending back for another look. Frame in really rather good condition. Comparing the forks on it to the set I have they were almost identical aside from two small tubular lugs on top and these ones are about 1" longer. Good news is bits missing off one set of forks are bits to be found on the others. I am still intent on fixing the other frame now that I have this complete one to make a jig from. Also provides the motivation to draw the rest of it up in cad. Started using FreeCAD over SolidWorks and has been a bit of a painful transistion. Stuck on front lugs with complicated multi dimensional curve. Anyhoo the hunt continues. Why is the motorcycle now upside down. I have no idea.

when the photo is large ( as in Mb) it will go sideways or upside own.
On my PC I go to open with 'Paint' and scale it down to 30 or 40 %
