Toolbox
Chaps,
I've realized that my lower toolbox scarcely opens before the lid hits the footrest.
Am I missing something?

Re: Toolbox
I think that's correct, you first lower the rest and then open the box.
If you mean you cant open it with the rest in the down position, then yes, there is something not in the right place.
bytheway, I discovered a tiny hole in the side of the document pouch on the inside, I guess it's for a short chain (like on oil cap) to keep the lid from opening to wide.

Re: Toolbox
Yes - it scarcely opens with the footrest down. I'll have a better look.
cheers

Re: Toolbox
Here's another view. i am getting ready to tackle this area:
Anyone see anything wrong? Those washers are not supposed to be there.

Re: Toolbox
Hi Simon, the washers are added I suggest to bring the footrest mounting out a little to allow it to fold upright, has your toolbox a convex type lid? has it been mounted a little way out perhaps? you saw how a p/o had fitted mine so as to fold, kind regards

Re: Toolbox
Simon, I have just had a look at mine and this also has washers but I think would fold vertically alongside the tool box, as is said perhaps it was common for the rest to have to be lowered to open the box, secondary security perhaps? kind regards

Re: Toolbox
Can you open your tool box Richard? It's not the foot rest as such that is the problem, it's the fixed footrest mount. The tool box hits the mount before you can get it open - do you see the damaged paint on my lid?
cheers

Re: Toolbox
Has the lower part of the box become distorted so that the outer lip is closer to the footrest mount than it should be? Difficult to tell from the photo, but the lower support looks as if it has been strained away from the box. Can you fashion an extension piece for the lower mount and rearrange the upper ones - it looks as though there was never room to open the box properly.
If the lower mount has a slot rather than a round hole fitting the stud that might give a little more.

Re: Toolbox
Thanks for that Roger - I hope you are right, and the bottom mount does look a bit odd. When I get the rear wheel back on I will turn the bike around and have a look at that mount. There's something wrong with the exhaust as well - the stand spring hits it every time.roger.fellows wrote:Has the lower part of the box become distorted so that the outer lip is closer to the footrest mount than it should be? Re: Toolbox
Simon I have had another look at mine, the lower mounting is completely different it is bolted to the rear of the box and is secured at the rear of the footrest mount, I will take some pics tomorrow and send 'em you, kind regards
