well.
look at that.
1944 WNG's have separate levers and valve lifter; that makes it all a little cheaper to obtain.

Re: handlebar layout
Hmm... that's exactly the same layout as on my bike, although that is a 1940/41 model.

Re: handlebar layout
John, certainly interested to know where this page came from as it isn't in the 44 parts books that I have.
Re: handlebar layout
I picked up an original paper parts book for contracts S5514/17/1.
The same contract as one of my WNG's !!!
It's very fragile but I wlll get around to scanning it completely .. let me know if you have anything else missing from yours .. mine has the breakdown of the lighting too
Here is the wording for the handlebar page:

Re: handlebar layout
A fortunate find, John.
Don't know what your frame number is but obviously it should fall into the XG44251-47250 range. My parts book is November 44 and shows the double levers both sides.
I think your book likely shows the late attempt to universalize all WD machines, thereby trying to make Ariels conform to other WD motorcycle handlebar layouts. I believe that only W/NGs used the double levers, both sides.
Odd thing is that while your contract ends with 47250, mine (S4554) starts at XG47251 but has an earlier demand and delivery dates than S5514. One might think that an earlier demand date would use earlier serial numbers.
Any other oddities in your book? What does the 17/1 stand for? Is that January 1?
Cheers,
Wade

Re: handlebar layout
OK, looks like I am missing a few pages for the November 44 book. I hadn't previously noticed because I was using the March 44 book to build mine which still shows the twin sets of double levers. Obviously by November, the WD was indeed universalizing controls, seats and seat springs to make supply easier for all models.
Are you going to post the November parts book to the archives? That would be appreciated.
