Re: is the price right
Interestingly, when looking through Andy Tiernan's archives, he sold this one previously when it was listed as a 1941 EX WD. It looked considerably different then. Same engine and frame numbers.

Re: is the price right
The most interesting is the timingdeck, it has first RH350 and is later closed.
So it's a collection of (India?) parts, not good buy afterall than, sorry.
Are you looking for WNG only or just any pre 1946 Ariel?

Found this but i don't know the first thing about BSA so it could be 1948 with a girder.

Re: is the price right
That looks like a very nice BSA M20 at a good price. Will never be as good as a W/NG (ha ha) but looks to be quite genuine.

No, we don't pay any VAT on old motorcycles if they originate from europa, that's one good thing, you will have to pay the DVLA.grahamhibbs wrote:Would I have to pay vat on a bike from outside the UK
For sale bsa m20 bj 1941 has stood still for 47 years but he is running, he comes from a military storage in Germany, he is in beautiful condition and original army green no roadpapers but a proof of purchase asking prise € 5,400, there are also two engines to but sold separately tlf 0621377242
You will have to make an offer higher tan the existing but you are not bound to it, you still can say no if you see it.

Re: is the price right
I have a 1940 Enfield WDC (350 sidevalve) that I picked up, almost complete, for a good price a few years back. It was dog slow and I mean really "struggling on minor A roads" slow. I changed the engine to a WDCO (350 OHV) which made it alot more useful. However, it's nowhere near as quick as my WNG. It is, however, physically smaller and has a proper paper oil filter fitted.
Enfield singles, for some reason, are always a little cheaper than others. Maybe it's the "india" link .. not sure. This extends to the WDC and WDCO military machines.
Here's an example of one sold for slightly more than 2k !
My mate has two M20's and they are only a bit faster than the WDC and also outclassed by my WNG.
However, M20's seem to go for quite a bit despite a manufacturing run of well over a hundred thousand machines
I don't think there is much in the handling, braking, reliability, across any of these bikes.
My perception is that BSA's are better served for bits (more made, more survived, more demand, more supply) but I don't think there is much in it.
If you are not fussed on which bike you buy, then consider an Enfield...

Re: is the price right
Thank you Adrie for the translation. And thank you John for the info, I have two Ariel, three Bsa's so an Enfield would be something completely new and as you say are less common than the m20s and if they are cheaper all the better.
Thanks again both.
Graham.

Re: is the price right
I've spent a lot of time riding the W/NG lately and despite a lot of people saying in the early days, "better off road than on" It's never once behaved badly with any tank slap indications whatever. It's probably the highest ground.clearance bike of all the Brit war bikes. They run the trials gear ratios with a big jump to top. Easily fixed if you don't like it. Highly under rated, Get one if you can. Nev
