Inspection caps

Post by chris.kelly »

Does anyone know the diameter and thread of the primary chaincase inspection caps for a rigid single?

I measured the cap at 1-9/16" and the thread gauge that seemed to fit was '20G 1/4', but I'm not sure how that translates into a BSW (or BSP?) thread.

Here's a picture of the part:

It's probably a 20 or whatever TPI with a whitworth ( BSW).form. If the one you are using as a pattern is a good fit in the chaincase measure the outside dia of the thread and start off with your diameter the same and calculate the thread depth. Unless your lathe is very small you can test the fit with the chaincase thread. Unless you have thread micrometers. ( which I have never owned). Nev
