Hi Adrie,
I think it is an NG, from the years you mention - but it could be 1936, dependant on the kneepads. The '37 had the '40's style kneepads and '36 had the earlier triangular type, which sit higher on the side of the tank. The photo isn't really clear, but I think this has the earlier kneepad. Pre 1936 NG's had a painted tank. 1936 is the first NG with Chrome.
Someone might be able to decipher the number plate. Don't UK plates refer to the bike?
Pity the photographer didn't move a bit to one side!
I'm sure someone will know for sure.

The hunter had the quick turning throtle lever in 1936, the low barrel is 250 or 350 but the front mudguard seems hunter.
On this photo it would be 5 years old, that would fit the shiny clutchdek.
You can see it better on; nederlandsearielclub.nl - forum - algemeen.
The number could be DDE22 or DOE22.

Re: Ariel 350cc 1936 -1937?
Hi Adrie,
I have '35, '36 and '37 NG's (one part restored, two in bits..). Unfortunately, I don't have the correct mudguard for the 1936, but my '37 has an original front guard similar to the one in the photo. My '34 LH also has narrower 20" rims. I think they all did pre war. I've never seen an LG, but I think they do too (so, not a 250). I think the one in the photo is a 19" and being painted, this points to a "G" model.
I think only the 500 Hunter had a quick action throttle in the mid 30's, not the 350 NH. As you say, the gap under the tank does suggest a 350.
Looking at the better photo, I'm pretty sure about the knee pads, so I will put my money on a 1936 NG / De-Luxe.
I hope you can find more info and a current owner!
