Re: Earles forked Ariel
As I remember the discussion that followed the 'unveiling' of the orange KHA there was considerable scepticism over the claimed provenance of the bike. The bike in the Cheval article is an interesting collection of parts. With the knobbly tyres and lights I wonder if it was a privateer's ISDT-type m...

Re: MK1 sq 4 con rod nuts torque setting
I'd assumed for some reason you were fitting new, club rods.
It will be well worthwhile fitting new rods if there is any doubt about the ones
currently fitted. If one lets go it will wreck the engine.
Whilst still in preaching mode, the oil ways ought to be 'clinically clean' too.

Re: Solex carburettor
The one shown in Pete's picture - the 'real thing' - can jam in the cable attachment at the butterfly end and allow the butterfly to remain partly open, another good reason for relocating the ignition switch in the headlamp where it is less difficult to reach. I've threaded a small washer over the n...

Re: Solex carburettor
I've had the butterfly in the Solex freeze in the part-open position. I survived and moved the
ignition switch from its inaccessible position under the seat and set it up in the headlamp
where it remains to this day.

Re: Insulating washers under valve springs
Yes, I always use them and for no better reason than that's what Ariel did.
Valve spring cup washer, Halite, 580-34 and seemingly available from
Draganfly and possibly others too such as the spares scheme.

For what it's worth 375 monoblocs without the threaded inlet were fitted to Arrows and Leaders
with the 376 fitted to Sports Arrows.

Re: Dutch rally 2024
Thanks for the information and pictures. The front brake assembly from the Square 4 is clever design and well engineered. Do you know how the wheel spindle is arranged for the BSA brake? We had an attempt at that but the wheel spindle finished with a horrible step at one side which looked like a dis...

Re: Dutch rally 2024
Very interesting pictures. I particularly like the VB with the red tank, girder forks and BSA front
brake, very much a rider's bike I think.
The Mk1 Square in the background of the picture has an interesting front brake too.
