Ariel registration
Trying to get my Ariel registered with the DVLA seems to be causing a problem. I was initially told that through the frame number a check found that the bike was still registered to a previous owner and that I would probably end up with the original registration number. Now I've received a letter in which my application form and fee have been returned and now they are asking questions that were answered when I visited DVLA 2 weeks ago: do I know what the reg number is; is the machine complete or still being renovated?
I supplied the frame number and engine number and showed pics of the completed bike so I am a little annoyed that it would seem that I have to start the registration process all over again!

Hi David,
It might be easier to start the registration process through the club, if you haven't done so already. From your posting it doesn't sound like it. The following link may help you, if not then contact Paul Jameson the club archivist and, hopefully, he will advise you on the best way forward.

All the best with it.

Thank you Kieth for your advice. I actually went to the DVLA yesterday to ask what they were playing at! I now have an appointment for next Wednesday to take the bike to DVLA for an inspector to check it over and to ensure that the frame number and engine number are genuine; then, I'm told, the original registration number will be forthcoming. In the meantime I will check out the link you sent me and get the ball rolling there too

Hi p tuxworth and robin
Yes the DVLA checked the frame number when I originally went there with all documentation to have the bike re-registered. I had a date certificate from the Society of Automotive Historians in Britain, Certificate of insurence (based on the frame number) and a new MOT certificate. Thats when I was told that the bike was still registered with a previous keeper and that checks would need to be made as to why the DVLA had not been informed of transfer of ownership and to ensure that it wasn't stolen. Initially I was told that after checks were made then the original number plate would probably be issued but the process would take up to 6 weeks. Well that was two weeks ago. Then on Tuesday I had a letter asking if the bike was "Complete" and asking me for the registration number and returning my original application form and my registration fee!
I went to the DVLA on Wednesday and explained that I had already provided proof that the bike was complete (photo's and MOT certificate) and it was a registration number that I was applying for. Anyway after the receptionist (?) returned from talking to some invisible person I was told that the bike would need to be brought to the DVLA for inspection; which is the stage I am now at. The inspection is booked for 1pm on Wednesday. Have to hire a van to get it there (an unnecessary expense in my opinion especially as the bike is tested and insured)
I'll post the results of the inspection as soon as I have it
Regards
Dave

David, it is usual for the DVLA to inspect re-registered bikes to check it is complete and the numbers untampered. . Last time I took a bike for inspection it only lasted 5 minutes.
My dealing with the DVLA in Bristol have all been pleasant experiences even if they do appear just to be ticking the boxes.

Thank you Dave. Yes I realise the people at DVLA have a job to do and that the bike must be inspected. My gripe is that even with insurence and test certificate which shows my bike to be roadworthy, I have to go to the added expense of hiring a van for the day to get my bike to DVLA for the inspection.
Plus; an inspection appointment could have been made when I originally went to DVLA with all the paperwork over two weeks ago.

Re: Ariel registration
Won't that make it hard to get insurance ?Davidmeachen wrote: the log book will read Ariel Chopper..
And if you tell the insurance compnay that it's something else, that is different from the logbook description, you'll be in default?
