Two black beauties.

So, which do you prefer, and why? Do they get used for different trips?

I must admit, I'm hoping to add a vintage Ariel to my stable!

I hope this is an open question.
pre 1925 has an rightfoot clutch, if you can handle that it's good for Banbury, to slow for other runs.
1926 is a light nice stering machine wich you can leave it third the whole run, watch the 20 drips a minute, small tank.
1927 as 26 but bigger saddletank.
1928 little faster, still 20 drips.
1929 faster, the first drysump oilpump, most popular for Banbury and other runs.
1930 as 29 bigger tank but most fidled in to Banbury date.

Like all old motorcycles, they only give you big fun when in good working order.

I'm quite inspired by one of the '20's Ariels, after the fun I'm having with my CycleMaster, with it's poor brakes, hand throttle & lack of anything electrical. Don't laugh!

I don't laugh about a cylemaster, they have a starters class at a German run for pre 1960 cycle-engine machines where my children started at 16 and when 18 they went on 1926 and 1930 Ariels.
Now they don't have time to ride at all.

I have noticed that there's a certain core of old time VMCC members who have in the past owned all sorts of exotica.... Broughs, Cammy Velos, you name it they've had it. Now... they take great pleasure in adventuring on autocycles, mopeds, cyclemasters etc. There's a lesson in there somewhere.

The answer is simple; the motorcycles are getting to heavy for them to wheel out of the house in to the trailer and back, they can't help it that prices rise 10% a year so they keep them becouse the bank sucks.

I agree with that but many of these people still ride their bigger bikes too. The point it that on the autocycles they can ride flat out and behave like teenagers. They say it's just as much fun and is often more fun.
