Sub 0 degrees

Post by jason.lydiate »

Hello All,

I'm a new member so please excuse me if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

My friend Ben kindly passed on to me his beloved Red Hunter which is now at my home in Stavanger, Norway. I have two questions:

1) Are their any members of the AOMCC in Stavanger?

2) ..and the second is Winter. Stavanger can fall below -5 degrees. (i'm not sure how cold the inside of the garage will be, but very cold) Are there any precautions I need to take over this period? Is there something on the market to cover a classic bike and keep it above freezing? I have actually destroyed a washing machine in the same garage, though I was new to the north and left water in the pipes.

Thank you very much.

Jason,
Lucky you!
Don't worry there should be NO water in your Ariel to freeze, apart from in the battery, and if you periodically charge that it should be no problem, or take the battery off the bike.
It is always a good thing to turn over these engines every few weeks, even better is to start them up, in your (cold),case it would be a good idea to replace? the engine oil with a winter grade SAE 20 or 30 to make it easier to turn over.
Someone will soon be along to fill in the gaps in my suggestions.
Good luck,
Robin.
